City Hall to Close Fridays Through Labor Day Under Furlough Plan
METHUEN — City Hall and most City administrative offices will close on Fridays beginning July 10 and continuing through Labor Day, a temporary furlough program built into the city's FY2027 budget.

The furlough closures mark one of the more significant operational changes to come out of City Hall this summer. According to the city's News Flash announcement, the Friday closures apply to City Hall and most administrative offices and will run each Friday from July 10 through Labor Day as part of cost-saving measures in the FY2027 budget.
In other city business, Mayor D.J. Beauregard and Methuen Public Employee Committee President Kara Blatt jointly announced a ratified health insurance agreement that will transition city employees, retirees, and their families to the state's Group Insurance Commission (GIC) plan. The city is also recruiting poll workers for the September 1 and November 3 elections; interested residents can call 978-983-8515. Separately, the Community Development Board meeting scheduled for July 8 has been cancelled, and the Cultural Council meeting set for July 13 has also been cancelled.
Free Summer Eats meals continue to be available at four Methuen locations for all children and teens 18 and under, with no registration, ID, or proof of income required.

The city's rail trail remains closed to the public while repairs continue on the Oakland Avenue Bridge; the closure began in May and will last until the work is finished. Residents planning to mark the holiday should note the Methuen Independence Day Fireworks Celebration is set for Saturday, July 11.

The Licensing Board meets Wednesday, July 8. The Conservation Commission meets Thursday, July 16. The Zoning Board of Appeals holds its regular meeting Wednesday, July 22. The Methuen Retirement Board and the Historic District Commission both meet Thursday, July 23.
