Beauregard Files Plan to End City Furloughs, Add School Funding
METHUEN — Mayor Beauregard has filed legislation to eliminate unpaid furloughs for city employees and increase investment in public education for fiscal 2027, the most consequential of several announcements from City Hall as Methuen also opened registration for a new curbside composting program and prepared for a hazardous waste collection day this weekend.
TOWN HALL Mayor Beauregard announced legislation aimed at ending unpaid employee furloughs and boosting funding for public schools in fiscal year 2027, according to a City Hall announcement. The city did not release additional details on the funding mechanism or the size of the proposed school investment.
The City of Methuen has opened preregistration for a new curbside composting program run in partnership with Black Earth Compost, giving residents a way to divert household food waste from the trash stream. The city framed the program as an easy option for households looking to reduce waste and protect the environment.
The city will hold a Community Involvement Meeting on July 29 to update residents on Community Development Block Grant programs, according to a CivicAlert posted this week.
Free Summer Eats meals are available through the summer to all children and teens 18 and under at four Methuen sites, the city said, with no registration, identification or proof of income required.
The city also plans preventive mosquito control applications at parks, playgrounds, athletic fields and school recreation areas on Monday, July 20, from approximately 9 p.m. to midnight, with Tuesday, July 21, as the rain date.
COMING UP Residents can drop off household hazardous waste on Saturday, July 18, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Transfer Station on Huntington Avenue; construction debris, trash, recycling and yard waste will not be accepted.
