Beauregard Announces Legislation Ending FY27 Furloughs, Raising School Funding
METHUEN — Mayor Neil Perry Beauregard announced legislation this week to eliminate unpaid employee furloughs for fiscal year 2027 and increase investment in Methuen's public schools, according to a City Hall announcement. The move comes alongside a batch of other municipal notices, including new mosquito-control spraying and the opening of a curbside composting program.

Mayor Beauregard's announcement of legislation ending FY27 furloughs while boosting school funding was the most significant item to come out of City Hall this week, though the city's release did not specify a dollar figure for the increased school investment.
The city has opened preregistration for a new curbside composting program run in partnership with Black Earth Compost, giving residents a new option for cutting household waste. Separately, vote-by-mail applications have begun arriving in Methuen mailboxes ahead of the 2026 State Primary and State Election, allowing eligible voters to request a ballot for either or both contests using the postage-paid form.
The city will conduct preventive mosquito-control spraying Monday, July 20, from about 9 p.m. to midnight at parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, and school recreation areas, with Tuesday, July 21, as the rain date. The city will also hold a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Community Involvement Meeting on July 29 to update residents on CDBG programming. Four Methuen sites are offering free Summer Eats meals to children and teens 18 and under through the summer, with no registration, ID, or proof of income required.
