Andover schools approve four policies in one vote
School Committee · Meeting of September 17, 2026
Andover School Committee approves four student-safety policies and resets its technology review timeline. The committee voted 5-0 to adopt policies on medication administration, seclusion and restraint, school choice, and building access, including a measure letting more staff administer emergency diabetes medication; member Lauren said advocate Deborah Hewson called that day urging support "because it provides an increased safety measure." Superintendent Keith Taverna presented his first annual goals, including a ParentSquare communication rollout and a planned family welcome center serving 52 home languages. The district prepaid about $50,000 in special education tuition and used only $250,000 of a $1 million reserve.
The policy subcommittee pushed its technology-use review from June 2027 to December 2027 and renamed it an "assessment" rather than an "audit."
